All Purpose Flour
About All Purpose Flour
All-Purpose flour is the default flour for baking. It is also called “plain flour” because it doesn’t have any leavening agents.
All-Purpose flour is used for cakes and sweets. It works as bread when bread flour is not available. In Indian cooking, we use all-purpose flour for the making of certain flatbreads, like naan.
There is a large tradition of flours in Indian cuisine, so all-purpose flour is not used as often as in the west. If it is used, it is often mixed with other flours.
