Tamarind

Tamarind comes from the pulp of a legume tree that comes from Africa. The pulp is a souring agent, like raw mango, kokum, or lime. It is often used this way in dals. It is also the main ingredient of Indian sweet and sour chutney, tamarind chutney, which is often served with fried snacks like bhel and samosas.
