Mung (moong)

Mung beans are prevalent throughout all parts of Asia. It grows in tropical and subtropical climates and originates in India. It has been found in disparate archaeological sites dating back 4,500 years. Although different regions have their favorite lentils, mung beans are the most popular lentil in India as a whole. Indians do sometime consume the whole bean, or even sprouted mung, but the split lentil is by far the most common way Indians consume mung beans. Mung dal is my favorite recipe for eating mung. I love the creamy texture of the mung dal in this classic dish.
